Description
In the Sonoran Desert, the Queen Butterfly (Danaus gilippus), is prolific and lives here all year around. Like its larger cousin, the Monarch, it likes Milkweed plants the best, but I see most of them on Globemallow flowers, Sacred Datura, and Desert Willow trees. When I uploaded the picture of this one, I noticed that it looked like one of its wings was bitten or chewed on. It is possible for them to become prey to certain spiders on rare occasions, so I’m wondering if that’s what happened here. Fortunately, it wasn’t broken, so fly free my sweet Queen!
