Description
First let me say that this is not digital art. It is a photograph of a sunset only slightly enhanced for vibrancy. This is an exact picture of the sky at the time I photographed it.
I am a great lover of our Arizona Sonoran Desert skyscapes - especially at sunset. The atmospheric conditions where I live along with the high amount of jet contrails make the canvas of light very conducive to diverse cloud shapes and patterns from the simple to the complex. While I have not memorized all the scientific names and explanations for the meteorological phenomena, I know that I often see virga — the clouds with visible rainfall not reaching the ground. Those are the white fluffy cumulus shapes with the gray streaks coming out like commas in the sky. That’s rain that’s not hitting the ground. They look like jellyfish. Above them is a great gray shark! Below the virga I see clouds that look like different kinds of fish seeking shelter near the ocean floor. The cactus silhouette looks like a strange coral formation sticking up out of the reef. The shark looks like it’s made out of a cirrus stratus combination - probably a subtype I’m not familiar with. But for now, I’m just calling it a shark - in the sunset!
