Description
The full moon in Virgo arose over the Maha Ganapati Hindu Temple in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona on March 1, 2018. This mainstream temple was constructed for all denominations and sects of Hinduism in a place not expected — Hidden Valley near Maricopa in northwestern Pinal County about 50 miles south of Phoenix. Surrounded by Sonoran Desert and farmland, this temple is dedicated to the elephant deity Ganesh - who removes obstacles, and a variant of the goddess Lakshmi, who bestows bountiful blessings of prosperity and wellbeing. It is said that she came from the ocean which many people liken to the desert. Her consort, Vishnu, is said to be the moon, and she is called the beauty of the moon. ‘Maha’ before any name means ‘great’ and since this temple is so prominent in the photo, I decided to entitle it Mahalakshmi Rising — over Arizona of course!
