Description
This year the spring Palo Verde bloom was short-lived for reasons unknown to me. But they were absolutely gorgeous as usual. Palo Verde means “green wood” in Spanish - and that’s what these trees have — a smooth green bark with thorns on leafy branches. In late April the trees turn a brilliant golden yellow from all the flowers. When the flowers begin to fall, they carpet the ground with gold as seen here in this desert wash or arroyo. The Palo Verde is our state tree and just one of the many natural wonders of the Sonoran Desert of Arizona.
