This burrowing owl is perched over a cornfield in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona at sunset. The ground next to agricultural areas in the desert makes great burrowing sites for these owls. They use power lines, poles, and whatever they can find to perch and scout the area for rodents and other small animals.
