In the summer months especially in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona, turkey vultures abound in the skies. Lately, I’m visited frequently by a special pair who often pose for me wherever I am — down in the Vekol wash, on the hill, or on the electrical pole outside my window. This picture was taken in the wash on the early morning of June 2, 2019, about 50 miles south of Phoenix. No other bird is as graceful in flight - they are the black stallions of the sky. I’ve done several videos about them and I’m about to do another one using the footage from this particular bird and his or her companion.
