This is an artistic rendering of a photograph taken on New Year’s Eve - 2018. It’s one of the many Costa’s Hummingbirds that frequent my land in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona, about 50 miles south of Phoenix. Creosote (Larrea tridentata), a native plant that males tiny white fuzzy seeds that transform into tiny yellow five-petaled flowers several times a year. They are beautiful and feed many desert critters. It is considered a large shrub, but can get just as tall as a tree, and smells so sweet right after a rain — glistening with the drops of water that cling to the leaves. Leaves have medicinal qualities — making a tea that with honey is not as bitter as when taken alone. Recent scientific studies found they contain an antioxidant which may be helpful in treating malignant melanomas. Creosote bushes can live to about 100 years old, producing clones in huge circular patterns living older than any other living thing on Earth.
Judy Kennedy (a visionary wayward muse) is a nature mystic and disabled visual media artist specializing in the Arizona Sonoran Desert. The Sonoran Desert is the United States' most ecologically diverse desert - especially in the state of Arizona. With an abounding love for her home, Judy's artwork and videos mostly feature wildlife in its natural setting with accompanying landscapes and skyscapes as varied and unique as her stylistic expressions. She serves this inimitable beauty and hopes that her art inspires others in their own conservation efforts. Judy is also a versatile writer of creative nonfiction and a composer of music which can be heard in many of her videos. Her YouTube channel alone has well over 1100 subscribers. ...
