Description
The Sonoran Desert Desert of Arizona is home to many dove species. In spring and summer, a proliferation of white-winged doves populates the area as they are important pollinators of several desert plant species, especially cacti. When they return from wintering grounds in Mexico they make grand pronouncements and become neighborhood bullies to all the smaller birds at my bird feeders. Yet this affords me a great opportunity to photograph them - like this trio I captured on August 16, 2018. These doves were perched on an overhang outside my window vying for the best spot overlooking the crowded feeders. The beautiful cumulus clouds in the background are like the cherry to top it off, providing a striking contrast to the near-silhouetted birds.
