Description
The Superstition Mountains in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona are a favorite subject for artists and photographers. This photograph was taken on March 17, 2018, from the highway that spans the distance between Phoenix and Superior, Arizona. It is a view of the Superstition Mountains seldom seen in photographs because it is a side view of the range. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a shot from this perspective. At any rate, the cactus in the foreground is our jumping cholla cactus, otherwise known as Chain Fruit Cholla (Opuntia fulgida). Don’t get near that stuff — it bites and won’t let go! Anyway, I’m glad those fluffy white clouds were floating in the lazy afternoon sky. Something about my mood mingling with that scene evoked a dreamy countenance, so I took the liberty to characterize it as such in my editing and titling.
