Description
This digitally manipulated photograph is another version of my original entitled Mahalakshmi Rising. That picture was taken on an older camera in a time when I didn’t have the editing software to do it justice. While I cannot retake the photograph, I can revise it to give it different looks. In this newer version, I added the text in tribute:
The full moon in Virgo arose over the Maha Ganapati Hindu Temple in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona on March 1, 2018. This mainstream primarily agamic temple was constructed for all denominations and sects of Hinduism in a place where least expected — Hidden Valley near Maricopa in northwestern Pinal County about 50 miles south of Phoenix. Surrounded by Sonoran Desert and farmland, this temple is dedicated to elephant deity Ganesh - who removes obstacles, and a variant of the goddess Lakshmi who bestows bountiful blessings of prosperity and wellbeing. It is said that she came from the ocean which many liken the desert to. Her consort, Vishnu, is said to be the moon and she is the beauty of the moon. ‘Maha’ before any name means ‘great’ and since this temple is so prominent in the photo, I decided to entitle it Mahalakshmi Rising — over Arizona of course!
