On a leisurely Sunday drive one spring evening, we came across an old farm in the desert, about 50 miles south of Phoenix, Arizona. It was surrounded by present day agricultural fields - mostly cotton and pecan orchards. Today’s Sonoran Desert farms rely heavily on the Central Arizona Canal and innovative irrigation methods developed by the Ak Chin Indians. Those methods were probably not available in this farm’s day. No telling what kind of seasons it saw when there was no such remedy for desert drought. Was there ever a well? How did they manage? What was the purpose of this old structure? What stories happened here? If only it could talk. . .
