Description
Desert Globemallow (Sphaeralcea ambigua), is a beautiful orange wildflower that blankets the Sonoran Desert of Arizona in times of plentiful rain. While that’s mostly during monsoon season in the summer, they also pop up in the middle of winter. Of course it’s a regular spring bloom - rain or not! These I caught on a windy March day about 50 miles south of Phoenix. A saguaro cactus looms on the hillside under a sky that was getting cloudier by the moment. Sure enough, later on that evening, it rained some more, so I’m certain more wildflowers and pictures of wildflowers are on the way!
