Description
Heavy monsoon flooding in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona plants new trees everywhere. One season we were gifted with this gorgeous Velvet Mesquite that grew rapidly and is still flourishing. Here it is in full bloom with desert hills in the background under a clear blue sky with fluffy white clouds. The long fuzzy flowers become seed pods which contain nourishment for humans and animals alike. There are three different species of Mesquite in the desert southwest. This is an example of the most common - Velvet Mesquite (Prosopis velutina).
