Description
I found this beautiful baby growing wild underneath my bird feeders in the shadows of a creosote bush one early morning. I was told that black-oil sunflower seeds prepared for birds do not produce flowers. Clearly that’s not true in this case. I was so happy to greet this sweet shining face and planned to nurture it accordingly until a sharp-shinned hawk knocked it down during an attack on one of those unsuspecting songbirds. Oh well. Such is the way of the wild in my Sonoran Desert of Arizona. This sweet wild baby sunflower was beautiful while she lasted, however, and her glory will be remembered always with this photo taken on October 24, 2019, about 50 miles south of Phoenix. Who knows? Maybe another one will pop up there someday!
