Description
This is a photograph of my shadow taken on May 18, 2017 while hiking out in the desert. I previously published it as a background image on one of my websites. It was the section where I introduced myself and I saw this depiction as having deep significance symbolically. For one, it meant I was not afraid to show my shadow, confront it, and even use it - speaking in Jungian archetypal terms. Second, it suggested that while an acquaintance can be made through words and imagery, it will still be a shadow compared to the depth of the soul which can only be understood through experience. More mundanely, it also represents me as a proud citizen of the west, (and/or at least a pioneer in my chosen area) - a hardy character in the desert with cowboy hat and all. While I never planned to offer it for sale, a contest on the subject of shadows has prompted me to do so. So see? You never know when a photo will emerge as having more meaning or purpose than it did originally, and maybe even more than once!
