Description
I’ve taken several photographs of my favorite desert flower - Sacred Datura - a night blooming variety of nightshade. It is difficult to get crisp and natural looking resolution with these flowers because they bloom at peak during the evening hours and often appear somewhat “dreamy” as a result. I take advantage of that characteristic at times to bring out their mystical nature even more. But I was never quite satisfied with this one photo. Therefore, as I often do with photos of this kind, I ran it through some digital manipulation. The end result — a kaleidoscope of its main colors forming a beautiful mandala with a definite foundation in nature. Extracting the essence of dreaming is an abstraction in concept. Deep down, I still see flowers, reminding me of one of my favorite quotes from a favorite author, Clarissa Pinkola Estes: “Remember, we say that a flower is blooming whether it is in half, three-quarters, or full bloom.” So it is with the essence of dreaming. . . at least in my eyes.
