Rattlesnakes are one of the most venomous reptiles living in the Arizona Sonoran Desert of the United States. On the evening of October 4, 2019, my remote outdoor trail camera caught a confrontation between an American shorthair cat and a Mojave rattlesnake (Crotales Scutulatus). I can assure you that if I’d been awake I would have taken immediate measures to save the cat, and hopefully the snake as well. Later, I found out that this was my neighbor’s cat and that it remained unharmed. I was so relieved! I am also grateful for the exceptional footage because I can use it in crusading efforts to persuade folks to keep their cats indoors. The resolution on these night cams usually leaves a lot to be desired. But because this kind of purely accidental and extraordinary footage is rare, I always think it’s worth creating digital art from it. Enjoy!
