Description
In the growing trend involving digital enhancement, manipulation, or transformation of a photographed image, this is one of my “telephone” abstracts of a line of rocks in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona.
Most people I’ve talked to about this know the parlor game, “Telephone.” For those who do not, this is how it’s played: Any number can play. Whoever goes first thinks of a phrase or sentence and writes it down on a piece of paper that remains hidden from the other players until the end of the game. Then that person whispers the sentence or phrase into another person’s ear. That person repeats the same into the next person’s ears, and so on. The last person in the group or room announces to the others what that sentence or phrase was. The final answer rarely resembles the original phrase or sentence spoken into the first person’s ear. It’s just an amusing little game that tests the limits and/or accuracy of human perception. The art technique I’ve used to create these abstracts is very similar, except I’m the only person playing and who knows what the original photograph really was until and if I choose to reveal it in my description. My technique is simple. I just digitally manipulate a starting photograph multiple times until I come up with something I find pleasing. Most of the time it bears litle resemblance to the original, but I don’t care. It’s experimental and it’s fun! I find it interesting to play with transformations in color and form within the limitless spectrum of artistic imagination. I hope you enjoy the results!
