Description
This photograph was taken when the full moon re-emerged in all its brilliant glory after several strange moments of total darkness. We had off and on cloud coverage this particular evening in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona about 40 miles south of Phoenix, so I’m glad I was able to witness this magical moment.
About this event: The Sunday evening of January 20, 2019 brought a showy event to the sky - a total lunar eclipse. This full moon in Cancer was called a super moon because it happened during one of the few times of the year when it is nearest the Earth. The designation of Wolf refers to this time being the deepest part of winter where survival through planning and teamwork are our greatest assets. Finally, it’s called a blood moon because the Earth is blocking out most of the sun's rays leaving a slight red-orange hue in the process. Appearing n the zodiac sign of Cancer puts special focus on the home and activities where nurturing is important. It is a time to let go of what is no longer needed to make room for that which is essential and vital for our wellbeing.
