This is a beautiful nonvenomous constrictor snake found in the desert southwest of the United States. They are crepuscular, nocturnal and good burrowers. I found this one near an arroyo in the middle of the night in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona about 50 miles southwest of Phoenix.
