Palo Verde means “green wood” in Spanish - and that’s what these trees have — a smooth green bark with thorns on the leafy branches. In late April the trees turn a brilliant golden yellow from all the flowers. The Palo Verde is our state tree and just one of the many natural wonders in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. This one overhangs a small wash (arroyo) on our land.
