This is just one of the beautiful landscapes you might see visiting the Boyce-Thompson Arboretum near Superior, Arizona in the Tonto National Forest. It’s one of southern Arizona’s most interesting state parks, and has tons of hiking trails - from easy to very difficult. This photograph was taken on March 17, 2018, so spring foliage is in full bloom. Picketpost Mountain in the background was the site of a short-lived military encampment in 1870 during the Apache wars. Today, the area is replete with copper and silver mines, and has been the site for many movie sets, including Oliver Stone’s U-Turn starring Jennifer Lopez.
