Description
I love the Arizona Sonoran Desert in the mild winter, especially after a rain. Even though this morning was overcast, the green of the foliage is highlighted due to the recent rainfall. The banks of the wash showed erosion from fall floods that in some cases resembled caves or burrows as can be seen here. All these features are constantly changing, and give the wash a lot of character! The Vekol wash is a long xeroriparian area that begins in Mexico and eventually merges with the Gila river (usually dry) just west of Phoenix in the shadow of the Estrella Mountains. This historically significant natural landmark and migration route is as diverse as the Sonoran Desert itself.
