Description
The giant cactus (Carnegiea gigantea) known as the Saguaro (pronounced “swauro”) is the icon of the desert southwest, existing only in the Sonoran desert of Arizona, a very small part of California, and Sonora, Mexico. Here we sit in the shadow of two of them among other desert plants at the Boyce-Thompson Arboretum near Superior, Arizona. The arboretum, also a state part, is Arizona’s oldest and largest botanical garden, known for its fabulous exhibits of the region’s flora against the stunning backdrop of Picket-Post Mountain’s soaring cliffs. This photo was taken in March of 2018.
