As with all my digital photography abstracts, this one began as a phenomenon in nature. It came out of a collection of sunset/twillight skyscapes from March 23, 2019 in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. As with the most interesting skyscapes in my collections, it had a lot of contrails. The top clouds reflected a beautiful peachy tone colorwise but the bottom clouds looked too dark and muddy for my tastes. So I reversed it choosing a marine color palette instead and played around with it. I could never totally eliminate the darker turbulence in the lower half, but that’s okay. To me, it looks like ship on stormy seas in a precarious situation. I titled it “Impending” though because I didn’t want to condemn it to a predetermined outcome like a shipwreck. In life we are given choices. At every moment it’s up to us to do the best with what we have. Does the captain regain control of the ship? Does some supernatural force like a God take the wheel? Is it rescued by aliens? Maybe it transforms into a bird and flies away into an extra dimension. What happens here? Well, I have my own story. What you choose to see is yours!
