Description
This is a photograph of the meteorological phenomenon known as a "Sun Pillar." This is completely natural - no filters or effects. The desert landscape should be clearly recognizable to anyone familiar with my photos because I use it a lot - especially with sunset photos. The tiny figure serving as the center of focus in this picture is a Giant Saguaro Cactus on a hill. I call it my “Y Cactus” because from most perspectives looking at it directly west, that’s what it looks like - a “Y.” This largest sun pillar I've ever seen appeared on October 22, 2018 in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona about 50 miles southwest of Phoenix. Cloud Kachina hosted a spectacular show that went on all day long. I believe the whole Sonoran Desert was dancing to this one!
