Description
I live in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona in a remote location about 40 miles south of Phoenix. I get an awesome variety of wild birds - especially doves. They like to perch and line up on the utility lines around the place, and often make interesting and picturesque silhouettes. This dove is a white-winged dove, most often seen here in summer. They are an important pollinator of our iconic giant saguaro cacti. I also get an awesome variety of skycapes too. For a while I couldn’t tell if this was a sun dog or a rainbow but it eventually grew into its full form, albeit briefly. This was shot on July 12, 2020, at the height of our Arizona monsoon season. A typical monsoon cloud was approaching in the late afternoon, and this dove landed in the right place at the right time. I’m glad I didn’t have to digitally tease out a beautiful background on this one like many of the other photos in my ‘Dove on a Wire’ series. Mother Nature provided all the color and texture needed here. Fortunately, like most of my experiences, this one was also captured on video, and will be published on my YouTube channel soon at youtube.com/waywardmuse (Arizona Sonoran Desert Wildlife & More!)
