Description
These are Mesquite tree flowers blooming in the Arizona Sonoran Desert spring of 2019. The red-orange colors in the background belong to Desert Globemallow flowers that were also blooming around the foot of the tree. These fuzzy little Mesquite blooms become seed pods that contain nourishment for humans and animals alike! There are three different species of Mesquite in the desert southwest. This is an example of the most common - Velvet Mesquite (Prosopis velutina).
