Description
Curve-billed thrashers (Toxostoma curviostre) are fascinating songbirds of the desert southwest. They sing just as beautifully as mockingbirds, and oftentimes, people can’t tell the difference. They are a bit more brash and bold, however, and are fun characters to watch. Interestingly they like to spend a lot of time hopping on the ground, probably looking for insects. This one was perched on a creosote bush in the late afternoon. The sun was just setting and its rays were accentuating the light and shadow making an exceptionally evocative portrait of this bright-eyed bird.
