My remote outdoor camera captured a coyote as a pallid bat was passing by. Ricky Gervais calls bats “mouse angels” and this one really fits the bill. The bat is blurred because my camera is not adapted for its speed, but when slowing it down frame by frame, it’s easy to tell that’s what it is. Pallid bats feed on the ground and tend to follow wild canids around to take advantage of the insects they stir up. I get them often with coyotes and foxes. A note on the equipment: Infrared technology makes it look like the animal is in a spotlight when it is not. When looking at the camera, only a dim red LED can be seen, but it’s enough to provoke an animal’s curiosity at times. This photo was captured on the evening of January 22, 2019 in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona about 40 miles south of Phoenix.
Judy Kennedy (a visionary wayward muse) is a nature mystic and disabled visual media artist specializing in the Arizona Sonoran Desert. The Sonoran Desert is the United States' most ecologically diverse desert - especially in the state of Arizona. With an abounding love for her home, Judy's artwork and videos mostly feature wildlife in its natural setting with accompanying landscapes and skyscapes as varied and unique as her stylistic expressions. She serves this inimitable beauty and hopes that her art inspires others in their own conservation efforts. Judy is also a versatile writer of creative nonfiction and a composer of music which can be heard in many of her videos. Her YouTube channel alone has well over 1100 subscribers. ...
