While I realized I’d published several desert landscapes in my collections, none of them really encapsulated the wide spectrum of the Sonoran Desert near my home. So I traveled out about 5 miles, looked north, and this is what I saw. This photo was taken on on the Fall Equinox - September 21, 2018, during the mid-afternoon. It was our average three-digit temperature for the season (around 100) with fluffy white clouds in a clear blue sky. This hidden valley is nestled between the Estrella Mountains just south of Phoenix (as seen in the background in this photo) and Table Top Mountain to the south, which marks the northern border of the Tohono O’odham Indian Nation which borders Mexico. Of course the icon of the desert southwest is prolific here - the Giant Saguaro cactus surrounded by creosote bushes sprouting out of the sandy rock bed of the Sonoran Desert upland. This place is sacred to me - it is my home.
Judy Kennedy (a visionary wayward muse) is a nature mystic and disabled visual media artist specializing in the Arizona Sonoran Desert. The Sonoran Desert is the United States' most ecologically diverse desert - especially in the state of Arizona. With an abounding love for her home, Judy's artwork and videos mostly feature wildlife in its natural setting with accompanying landscapes and skyscapes as varied and unique as her stylistic expressions. She serves this inimitable beauty and hopes that her art inspires others in their own conservation efforts. Judy is also a versatile writer of creative nonfiction and a composer of music which can be heard in many of her videos. Her YouTube channel alone has well over 1100 subscribers. ...
